Not sure which ProTec helmet to buy? Most ProTec skateboard helmets come in two versions - one that is certified to the CPSC standard for bicycle helmets and a second that is intended for skate use only. The outer shell is the same between the two helmet versions. It is the inner liner material that is different. ProTec Helmets for Bike/Skate (Standard EPS Liner) These versions of ProTec Helmets for bike and skate have a hard styro-foam liner inside that meets the CPSC Safety Standard for bicycle helmets. The inside liner is called an EPS liner and its construction is shown in the image to the left.
It is important to note that the standard EPS shell loses its protective abilities after sustaining a serious impact, because the stiff foam condenses to absorb the force of impact and does NOT rebound to its original shape. Most manufactures recommend that you replace a helmet with an EPS liner after sustaining a moderate to heavy impact.
The ProTec Bike/Skate Helmets that have the EPS liner are: The ProTec Classic Bike/Sate Helmet, The ProTec Cyphon Helmet, The ProTec Shovelhead 2 Full Face Helmet, The ProTec Auger Full Face Helmet
If you are interested in a helmet that is CPSC Certified and retains its protective abilities after sustaining multiple impacts, check out ProTec’s B2 Bike/Skate Helmets and ProTec’s Ace Bike/Skate Helmets, which come with ProTec’s Multi-Impact SXP Liner technology.
ProTec Bike/Skate Helmets (Multi-Impact SXP Liner) ProTec’s top-of-the-line B2 Bike/Skate Helmets and Ace Bike/Skate Helmets are equipped with a unique Multi-Impact SXP liner. This light, but stiff liner is the perfect choice for aggressive active sports enthusiasts because it merges the two benefits of Pro-Tec’s 2-stage liner and EPS foam liner: Certified protective abilities that rebound after an impact and do not condense permanently, allowing for protection even after a collision.
The SXP liners have built-in rebound control that kicks in after the liner has been compressed (due to impact). This allows the helmet to maintain its impact absorbing qualities time after time. The construction of the SXP Liner is shown in the image to the left.
The ProTec Bike/Skate Helmets that have the SXP liner are: The ProTec Ace Bike/Sate Helmet and The ProTec B2 Bike/Skate Helmet
ProTec Skate Helmets (2-Stage Liner)
All ProTec SKATE Helmets have a soft two-stage liner inside the helmet. The softer liner is generally considered more comfortable, as it conforms to your head better than the stiffer styro-foam liner of the bike/skate helmets. However, the SKATE versions of ProTec helmets are NOT certified to CPSC Bicycle Helmet safety standards. So, it's a great - and comfortable - helmet to use while skateboarding in the park or pipe. And its cushiony material provides protection hit after hit. The image to the left shows the detail of this 2-stage ProTec helmet liner.
The ProTec Skate Helmets that have the 2-Stage liner are: The ProTec Classic Skate Helmet, The Classic Full Cut Skate Helmet, The ProTec B2 Skate Helmet, The ProTec Ace Skate Helmet, The ProTec Bucky Lasek Skate Helmet
