RED (by Burton) protective gear – Superior fit, form, and functionRED helmets and RED snowboard protective gear offer protection for your head and body, function for your comfort, and style for your look that makes RED the quintessential choice for the snowboarder or skier who desires quality head and body protection in a package that says you know what is cool without having to stop somebody in his tracks and scream it in his face.Long before anybody wore ski helmets, Jake Burton Carpenter was working hard to translate the obscure concept of the surfer into something much more spectacular – something that would go much faster, something sturdy enough to carry an agile rider the entire way down any ski slope, something that could even be employed by the most accomplished riders to get them through the densest glades and the most remote backcountry. Carpenter’s creation, of course, was the snowboard. The year was 1978. That it would be another four years before any ski resort would let snowboarders use this device on the slopes alongside skiers was beside the point. Carpenter had started the proverbial snowball rolling and the rest is history. Fast-forward to early 1990’s, Burton is the dominant snowboard and snowboard apparel company in the world. Time to lay back and soak up the spoils, yes? …No! Carpenter continues to ask how he can revolutionize the sport he created. Protective gear, that’s how! Over the years, as he watched snowboarders pull more and more complicated tricks all over the mountain and all over the half-pipe, Carpenter realized that helmets, to that point worn only by competitive alpine racers, should really become a mandatory piece of equipment, as elemental as the snowboard itself. If snowboarding was to be viewed as a responsible recreational activity in the eyes of its critics, then boarders should really begin by wearing protection on their heads when they threw those evermore jaw-dropping antigravity moves. But how? Lightning strikes! Promote snowboard helmets as a fashion accessory. The genesis of RED Protective GearIn 1996, RED, Burton’s protective gear division, was launched with the design and production of its now ubiquitous helmets. Later it added protective apparel for the upper and lower body. Today, RED Snowboard Helmets, RED Ski Helmets, and RED Protective Gear are some of the most popular and protective items available for the slopes. |
