At their widest, regardless of the size you buy, the seven overlapping hard-shells are eight inches wide. These are riveted into heavy-duty foam pads that sit flush against your spine, which at their widest are another three inches wide on either side. Thus, the SixSixOne Assault sports a combination hard- and soft-shell spine guard that is a whopping 14 inches wide in the extra large size. Even in the small size, it is still a total of 13 inches across. How about that for spine guard protection?
Quality Construction and VersatilityThe base layer of the SixSixOne Assault is an attractive, black, full side-zip, short-sleeve shirt of open-weave, athletic stretch fabric. Sewn into the Assault short-sleeve shirt are all of the hard- and soft-shell pads: the beefy hard-shell spine guard, the additional soft-shell shoulder blade pads, the soft-shell chest protector, and the combination hard- and soft-shell shoulder pads. Sewn into the bottom of the spine guard is a five-inch Velcro spandex waist belt. Up top, there are two Velcro spandex straps to cinch down the shoulder cups as snugly as you desire.
