SixSixOne Rage Elbow Pads: Which SixSixOne Gear Is Right For Me?

SixSixOne offers four different kinds of mountain biking/BMX elbow pads that feature EVA foam padding. (SixSixOne also offers pads that feature its innovative d30, a specially engineered material designed to be malleable and soft under normal conditions but to harden upon impact.) Each EVA foam-based pad is styled differently, and it can be tough to decide which one is right for your needs.

SixSixOne Rhythm elbow/forearm pads feature a uniquely shaped, perforated EVA foam pad that rests inside durable, abrasion-resistant mesh. The snug and soft polyester sleeve runs from bicep to wrist—long enough to protect you from branches—and features an internal silicon gripper to keep the elbow pad in place. The Rhythm elbow/forearm pad does not have a hard cap, thus it’s best suited for light rides or more recreational riders who only need a base level of protection.

SixSixOne Riot elbow pads sport an oblong-shaped pad with an internal hard cap under EVA foam padding. The sleeve is Neoprene construction with 1000 denier Kordura reinforcement. The Riot elbow pad is the shortest of the four pads considered here and has a slip-on design with two hook-and-loop elastic straps and Velcro closures. The Riot elbow pad offers good impact protection in a low-profile pad that will easily fit under your shirt.

SixSixOne Rage elbow pads are somewhat similar in construction to the Riot elbow pad: both have a soft, perforated neoprene sleeve, an internal hard cap, and EVA foam padding. However, the Rage elbow pads are longer than the Riot elbow pads and ergonomically pre-curved. The Rage also has strategically placed small foam pads on the sides of the elbow to protect your ligaments. It’s slightly beefier than the Riot elbow pad but still low profile enough to fit under your clothing.

SixSixOne Comp elbow/forearm pads meld soft- and hardshell protection with a vented EVA padded chassis that incorporates articulated polypropylene hard caps. SixSixOne Comp elbow pads wrap around your arm and are secured with a single strap that criss-crosses among four hook-and-loops with a Velcro closure.
