Smith Transport: What's a hybrid shell ski helmet made of?
Smith’s hybrid shell construction combines separate lightweight and durable shells to create what the company deems an entirely new ski helmet category. The industry standard has become in-mold
construction that fuses a polycarbonate outer shell with a foam liner. Smith has combined in-mold construction with its Bombshell technology, which uses an injection molded shell of ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, if you want to get specific) designed to withstand hard hits with good durability. Smith's Hybrid Shell construction optimizes the best traits of each material to create a lightweight, low-profile ski helmet that offers both high impact protection and comfort. Hybrid Shell construction also creates a clean, smooth top surface. The Smith Transport ski helmet features a low-profile climate control that can be adjusted with a gloved hand, so you can modify the amount of airflow while you ride. In addition, Smith takes great pains to ensure that your eyes are protected as well as your head. The Transport ski helmet features AirEvac 2 ventilation that connects the helmet shell vents and the PS channels to increase airflow and prevent goggle fogging. All of these features add up to a lightweight ski helmet that doesn't skimp on protection or comfort. As with any helmet, be sure to inspect the interior and exterior for cracks or other damage after any serious impact. If you take a hit hard enough to make you say, "Wow!" please check your helmet.
