As a French company located near Saint Tropez on the Mediterranean, much of Urge Bike Products’ research and development has been undertaken by Fabien Barel, who himself hails from Nice, approximately 75 miles down the coast. With two World Downhill Championship titles and six French Downhill Championship titles to his credit, Fabien Barel is one of the most decorated athletes in the sport of mountain biking. He is also one of the most industrious.

When asked, Fabien Barel is quick to point out that he and his Mondraker teammates, Damien Spagnolo and Aurielien Giordanengo, are not simply mountain bike racers. In fact, they are quite the opposite. Fabien demands that the three riders, together with Paul Walton, a mechanical engineer by trade and the manager of the Mondraker Factory Team, do all of the R&D on the mountain bike equipment they employ to win races and earn their living. This includes the R&D for their head protection.
